Welcome to Peace for
Pot Self Portrait of a Contemporary L.A. Woman by Deedee Kirkwood
PEACE FOR POT, a
new stage play by Deedee Kirkwood, is a wickedly funny, emotionally
rousing, simply staged comedy/drama about an irrepressible
hero, Weedee, who experiences serial entanglement and wanderlust
adventure with marijuana as her sidekick.
Through comedic flashback, PEACE FOR POT starts
with the adventures of young Weedee during the ‘60s in
what seems to be a heady and breezy lark, then follows her colorful
life to the present day. However, this lighthearted fun is really
a frantic flight from the guilt of abandoning her first love
who has become a terrified, shell-shocked, post-Vietnam shadow
of himself. The madcap story line bumps up against many major
issues and trends of the times- war, illegal abortion, drug use,
radical politics, sexual exploration and domestic abuse. Escape
leads her to a German commune, an Afghan campground and a dispirited
marriage.
Eventually, Weedee is liberated and gains a sense
of well-being as she forges mature and balanced relationships
with all three of her loves- her first love, her present day
love and marijuana.
FROM THE PLAYWRIGHT: PEACE FOR POT is a
current, endearing and true story that speaks to taboos. I have
brought this out-of-the-closet story from an under-represented
voice as far as I can alone. Now I am looking for a partnership
to bring this smash hit to new heights.
PEACE FOR POT was self-produced in January-February,
2003, at The Globe Playhouse in Hollywood, California for eight
performances. After receiving the Critic’s Pick in Back
Stage West, and a thumbs up from High Times, my play’s
world premier played to sold out audiences becoming very popular,
very quickly.
Since then I changed the title to SEX POT, changed
my name from Bransky to Kirkwood and started editing. Now after
three decades of rewrites and a title change back to the original,
I can say my saga is finally completed. Most recently in October,
2005, I won the Writers Digest 74th Annual Writing Competition
6th Place Award from a field of 18,000 entries.
I’m looking to connect PEACE FOR POT with
producers, theaters, conferences, festivals, agents, grants,
animators, supporters and…? Script, summary, cast/scene/tech
breakdown available upon request. Thank you, Deedee Kirkwood

The Pot Fairy comes to life as a magical character in PEACE FOR POT. I have commissioned the visual artist Flowers to create a series of light-hearted Pot Fairy designs to accompany each of the fourteen scenes. Flowers has worked as a dedicated artist-citizen in Los Angeles and throughout the world for more than twenty years, using art to create a more unified society, affirming peace and unity among all peoples. Vitally concerned with raising the environmental, spiritual and aesthetic awareness of her audience, with each project she continues to bring diverse people together to use the creative process as a means to transform lives and form a better world. ggpotfairy@aol.com
