my BUDS
Jeannie Herer, Deedee Kirkwood, Jack Herer, Howard
Dover.
January 23, 2002. Opening Night of PEACE FOR POT, The Globe
Theater, Hollywood, California.
Jack Herer, internationally celebrated “Father of the
Hemp Movement” and author of the phenomenal best-seller, ”The
Emperor Wears No Clothes; The Authoritative Historical Record
of Cannabis and the Conspiracy Against Marijuana”. He
sets the world straight that the diverse properties of the
scorned and condemned marijuana plant can provide sufficient
fabric, oil, medicine, fuel, food and shelter for all the peoples
of the world, if completely legalized and commercialized; and
that hemp will prove to be the means of saving the planet (us)
from acid rain, global warming and the depletion of our precious
forests and fossil fuels. Jeannie, also dedicated to the hemp
movement, and Jack loved PEACE FOR POT! As did Howard, Marijuana
Comedy Show promoter extraordinaire, sprouting Pot Fairy wings.
Bruce Margolin, Deedee Kirkwood, Tara Margolin.
January 23, 2002. Opening Night of PEACE FOR POT, Globe Theater,
Hollywood, California.
Bruce and Tara, yoga devotees, loved PEACE
FOR POT. Bruce Margolin,
an attorney for over 30 years, has successfully defended
thousands of marijuana cases as well as worked to reform
those laws he believes to be unjust. He is currently director
of Los Angeles N.O.R.M.L. (National Organization for the
Reform of Marijuana Laws) and wrote the “MargolinGuide,” an
easy-to-understand pamphlet about the marijuana laws in all
50 states. (Call 1-800-420-LAWS) Bruce also ran for Governor
of California (in the recall election) with resolve to pardon
those imprisoned by the state for nonviolent marijuana offenses.
Out of 133 candidates he came in an impressive 11th. Arnold
won.
Edgar Musshafen, Deedee Kirkwood, Barbara Baker, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
1972, Deedee’s parent’s house,
Los Angeles, California.
German commune revolutionary, Edgar, on an L.A. visit with my Sorority Big Sister, who waitressed at Zucky's where my father got her a job. There she met Mr. Maui-Wowie Universe and they began their six year journey. (Barbara Baker memoir, www.arnoldandme.com) As friends we'd sit around the dinner table, laugh at Arnold's dirty jokes and listen as he repeatedly affirmed his dream. "I am zie best. One day I'm going to make it big in America, vait and see!" I thought to myself, 'Right, Arnold! With that thick accent and those ridiculous muscles you're just another foreigner with stars in his eyes.' Then I left for Germany where I stayed for years. It was a real surprise when my mother sent me the first newspaper clipping that Arnold was going to be in a movie...then a second...and third. The rest is history. By the time I moved back to Los Angeles, Arnold Schwarzenegger was the most recognizable movie star on the planet. He showed me, and I've followed my dream ever since.
R. Thad Taylor, Deedee Kirkwood.
February 2, 2003. Closing night of PEACE FOR POT, Globe Theater,
Hollywood, California.
R. Thad Taylor, Globe Theater owner and
President of the Shakespeare Society of America said, “PEACE FOR POT was performed
here at the Globe Playhouse as a ‘world premiere’.
It was creative, witty, humorous and controversial as the name
implies. We did another ‘world premiere’ here at
the Globe Playhouse, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” which
had similar original material. PEACE FOR POT has the same type
of potential.”
